About Marilen
Marilen's artistic prowess extends beyond painting. As a respected interior stylist, she has hosted numerous television shows and was a judge for the international reality interior design show The Apartment. Her lifestyle and design blog marilenstyles.com, garnered nominations for the Amara International Blog Awards after gaining a following for her expert interior styling tips and beautiful home decor inspiration.
As an artist, Marilen is self-taught, guided by intuition and observation. "I did not have any formal training other than taking painting lessons as a child, and in the last few years, watching reels of other artists. I learned mostly through intuition and experimenting. I went with what felt and looked right to me," she says. This experimental approach led her to discover a unique style that balances beauty and the unconventional. She took to the brush and canvas again in 2023, and her first painting then was an expression of the joy and peace she felt at the time.
"Sa Simula" marks a significant milestone, showcasing Marilen's ability to weave personal experiences into visual narratives. Her exhibit is a poetic ode to nature and The Divine Creator.
"I feel recharged and crave nature,” she says, and her paintings reflect this shift. Each stroke is a tribute to her profound connection with nature as she surrenders to the whims of water, allowing it to dance freely across the canvas. She embraces the fluidity, giving rise to organic shapes reminiscent of various aquatic waves, billowing clouds, and the masculinity of land and rock. “Sa Simula” serves not only as a reflection of her artistic evolution but also as an invitation to pause, rest, and be still in the face of nature’s beauty.
A passage from Bernadette Noll's poem "I Want to Age Like Sea Glass” resonates deeply with Marilen and her love for nature. She says this line encapsulates what she dreams of her art to be: "I want to be picked up on occasion by an unsuspected soul and carried along—just for the connection, just for the sake of appreciation and wonder." Marilen hopes her art will create a similar connection with viewers, inviting them to appreciate the beauty of nature and the emotions it can evoke.
